Sarah Nettleton will be on hand to demonstrate sheep shearing. See how raw wool is processed at Cash’s Carding Mill and speak with members of the Cash family who operated the mill for generations.     Music was an integral part of life for the Gaels. There are many songs and stories about their talents and tunes written. Another important aspect of life for the Gaels was to gather together to share their music in the community. Often in the evening, the schoolhouse desks would be pushed aside, and the music would flow through the opened windows for the dancers inside and outside. Join us for this special storytelling tour and square dance.

    Dance: 6:00-9:00pm.
    Admission $25.00 per person
                      $15.00 for students 

    **If you want to attend the dance portion only admission is $10.00. Please reserve your ticket in advance, space is limited.

    Donald Og Day

    Location: NS Highland Village, Iona, NS

    Date: August 1

    Join us as we celebrate the Donald Og legend and the settlement of the Iona area by MacNeils from the Isle of Barra. On board a British man of war patrolling the Bras d’Or Lake following the 1758 Seige of Louisbourg, Domhnall Og MacNeil brought news of the lake’s natural wonders home to his native Isle of Barra. Traditional food, natural dye, barvas ware and other demonstrations will take place throughout the day, along with a special running of Cash’s Carding Mill and a céilidh. We will also be joined by our friends from Eskasoni Cultural Journey and the Fortress of Louisbourg. Regular admission applies. 10 am – 3 pm.

    Join us for an afternoon of fun and Gaelic arts. Fiddlers, step-dancers, pipers, and more, come together to treat visitors to traditional Nova Scotia Gaelic culture in this outdoor concert overlooking the scenic Bras d’Or Lake. This year marks the 58th Annual Highland Village Day Concert. Highland Village Day is one of Cape Breton Island’s original Outdoor Scotch Concerts.

    Come and celebrate Halloween with a special evening tour of the Highland Village by lamplight, complete with storytelling, skits and special effects.

    The tour is followed by a storytelling session in "The Tuning Room" with fuarag, oatcakes and more.
    This is a family activity enjoyed by all. Prepaid reservations are required. No refunds or discounts.

    Cost $18 per adult, $40 per family, or $10 per student.
