Top of the Island

Top of the Island

Of the hundreds of thousands of tourists that come to Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island each year, only a small number of visitors discover the Top of the Island. Located at the Northern most section of the Cabot Trail, The Top of the Island is a rugged and breath-taking place that is one of the last undeveloped, authentic travel destinations on the east coast of North America.

The northern location of the Top of the Island region, results in visitors being central to activities and outdoor attractions located on both the East, and Western sides of the Island, which makes the region an ideal location for vacationers. The Top of the Island is a one-stop destination for guided eco-friendly, family friendly, and adventure based activities.

In 1497, John Cabot landed on the sandy beach, Cabot's Landing Park,at the Top of the Island: come experience the wonders of the shores which drew Cabot to Cape Breton. Watch innumerable whales by spectacular mountains with Oshan Whale Watch and Dixon's Zodia SeaFari. Enjoy our famous chowders, Hideaway Campground's Oyster Farm and catch a fish with the Frasers. Discover solo and guided outdoor adventures with Cabot Trail Adventures. Be immersed by historical lighthouses and the North Highlands Museum. Be awed by Beulach Ban Falls, Meat Cove's Highland vistas, Dingwall's white cliffs, and our Alternate Scenic Route. Then browse for authentic Cape Breton crafts at our local shops & studios.
