  • Mamie's Schoolhouse - Sustainable Fibre Arts

    Mamie’s Schoolhouse features fibre arts workshops using sustainable materials and processes. Founded by ecological fibre artist Mel Sweetnam, workshops include making dyes from plants, resist and other surface design techniques using plant dyes, hand-stitched bookbinding, and others.     Victoria County Creates is a place where local artists and craftspeople of all kinds can sell, work and teach others about their creative and technical processes.  Find us in the charming waterfront town of Baddeck on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

    Victoria County Creates is open year round and houses the work of over 70 artists.  A wide range of items big and small, both functional and purely artistic. A world of wonder for someone looking for the perfect gift, especially during the holidays. 

    Our Artist In Residence program brings in talented people from all over to have you watching in awe of their artistic skill, if not participating in their craft yourself. We host art workshops, afternoons of crafting and more.


    July 4th, 2016 Victoria County Creates opened its doors to the public with 25 local artisans and four Artists in Residence (AIR) lined up from July to October. We now have over 70 artists featured in our shop and have hosted seven incredible artists in our Artist in Residence program. We feature glass, jewellery, woodwork, textiles, photography, painting, cards and so much more.

  • Wildfire Pottery

    Wildfire Pottery features the artistry of Sarah Beck. Sarah is best known for her raku pottery sculptures of puffins, bears, owls and other animals which exhibit whimsy and charm, but she also makes functional tumblers and plates, intricate laser cut jewellery, prints and cards of her colorful animal portrait paintings and a multitude of other creations. As the pottery is also a working studio visitors may see the artist at work and learn a bit about the process involved.

  • Woodsmith Studio

    Woodsmiths Studio transforms the finest of local Cape Breton woods into functional art.

    Using local Cape Breton woods, our expert Woodsmith, Bob Evans, has created a variety of unique, original and very functional products. With well over 40 years devoted to teaching, designing and creating, Bob offers a finished product that is not only original but produced in limited quantities.  Many items depict a variety of woods including beautiful yellow birch, beech, oak, ash, maple, Birdseye maple, spalted woods, cherry, apple and walnut. Learn from Bob and his expert staff the process that begins with drying the wood in a kiln to the finished product.
